Clean battery posts with a wire brush when you discover corrosion and grime. Check the voltage on the battery and replace if the battery will not hold a full charge.
Ive never owned a trolling motor let alone a bow mount one.
Trolling motor has power but wont work. If your battery fails to provide power to the electric trolling motor then the trolling mortar wont work. First to fix this problem check whether the battery has ample capacity to supply the motor with the power required to provide thrust. Checking the voltage lets you know whether you need to recharge the battery.
There is an in line fuse that should be checked batterys tested and confirmed good. If you do not hear a hum when connected and on you could have a blown fuse on the circuit board. It is very common for the circuit boards to malfunction and need to be replaced.
Sometimes even with the right battery and ample capacity your trolling motor cant supply enough power. This can create a huge problem as the trolling motor wont be able to apply the required thrust. Probable Causes and Solutions.
The most possible cause is from the propeller. In this case the propeller should be removed and cleaned. If your getting power out of the controler and not to the motor sounds like you might have a broke wirebut also sounds if theres something wrong with the varabile control also the way you say it runs on high and then at speed its set on all can be checked with a ohm meter.
Trolling Motor Start or Turn Over Wont Turn At All. In some cases the trolling motor fails to run at all. This may not be an issue on small lakes where you can paddle around but on sea trips it can stop the trip before it even starts.
Check the fuses they can blow from sudden power surges. The corrosion can make them much less conductive which means the current cant flow freely and you wont get full power out of your motor. If a plug or receptacle has any sign of heat or deformation get a new plug or receptacle and connect as instructed.
Check Wires and Extensions. Hello Im having issues with the trolling motor. It started a like a year ago it will randomly not work I will push the GO button on the foot pedal and it just clicks with no go.
Its a 74lb thrust new minnkota with 24volt setup. Ive always fixed the problem by cleaning the posts on the batteries or just recharge the batteries but this time. Start by inspecting your electrical system to ensure power is reaching the motor.
Check the connections at the battery terminals and the trolling motor. Clean battery posts with a wire brush when you discover corrosion and grime. Check the voltage on the battery and replace if the battery will not hold a full charge.
Mar 29 2006. My so called newer boat 2003 is giving me problems. Ive never owned a trolling motor let alone a bow mount one.
It wasnt getting power so I by passed the breaker on the battery. Now when I flip the onoff switch on the foot control I hear a click. When you start trouble shooting start at the TM.
Get a test light hook the ground to the TM battery negative side and stick the test light probe into the TM wires one at a time. If you do have power in either wire its in the TM. No power its in the battery andor wiring.
Transom mounted trolling motor doesnt work anymore. Worked last summer but sometimes I would need to push the blade to get it to start spinning. I have a feeling something might be burned out.
I know I have power to the motor itself. Just seeing where I should begin trouble shooting. It has a bow-mount trolling motor on it.
Last year mid-June the trolling motor stopped working one day while I was out fishing. Annoyed I went home put the boat on the trailer put the trailer in the garage and didnt deal with it for a couple of weeks. When I went to deal with it the trolling motor was again working fine.
Pop the top cover off by removing the 4 screw from below. I use jumper cables to put 12 volts to the 2 big wires one red one black running down the tube to the power head. If the motor does not spin then you have brush or armature issues.
If the motor spins you have board issues since your controller worked on someone elses motor. If youre really handy disassemble the motor and check for bad seals. Water in the motor will lead to power loss.
If your trolling motor is completely dead. Sometimes a motor will simply stop working mid-troll or refuses to start up after being stored during the winter. Recharge and test the battery to see if its simply drained or dead.
I have a Minn-Kota Power Drive model 65AP. The problem I am haveing is that the motor wont turn the prop. It turns the head to around but the prop wont spin.
The batteries are completly charged and when I press the foot pedal down I can hear what sounds like a relay click inside the unit. Check to ensure that all wing nuts that secure the trolling motor wires to the battery are tightly fastened. A loose wing nut will not conduct electricity.
Id check battery voltage at the foot control and work your way back to the batteries. Ive checked the wiring to the plug and that looks good. I charged my trolling batteries back up and went to the trolling motor pedal to get some readings.
At the pedal where the power goes to it I am getting 2552 volts with my fresh charged batteries. At the micro switch button I push with my foot to make the trolling motor turn on I was getting 261 volts. When I pushed the button I got 00000 volts.
