Hi idle speed on the flusher in neutral would want to be around 1000RPM but no real point doing any adjustments on a flusher due to no exhaust back pressure.
Outboard motor won t idle. When an outboard motor runs at speed but cannot hold an idle it usually indicates a problem with the carburetor. Outboard motor designs vary depending on make and model but all operate on similar principles. Consult your owners manual to check items that may be unique to your motor.
An outboard motor that wont idle properly can be a real headache especially when mooring with an engine that stalls every time you bump it into neutral. The good news is that the outboard actually runs so the problem shouldnt be hard to fix its just a matter of finding out whats stopping the motor from idling as it should. Outboard Idle Problems Outboard Wont Idle Outboard Engine Wont.

Hi idle speed on the flusher in neutral would want to be around 1000RPM but no real point doing any adjustments on a flusher due to no exhaust back pressure. Only real way to tune an outboard for low speed running issues is in the water with the engine able to reach operating temps which at low speed will be hot to give the outboard the best.
1 Fuel Filter - I cleaned the fuel filter by unscrewing it and blowing out the bits of dirt in the container and on the filter. 2 Pilot Screw - Then I removed the pilot screw cleaned it off sprayed carb cleaner into the hole and replaced it. Just an update.
Ended up cleaning the carby and replacing with a carby repair kit. There was a problem with the float which wasnt cutting fuel off and causing the carby to overflow. Fixed this issue and it seemed to be better but the outboard still wont idle.
If the fitting is damaged you may choose to push to one side to get your engine running temporarily. After that your engines draw is mostly sufficient to maintain the flow of the fuel running well. Engine Stalls in Neutral at Idle.
In some cases the outboard may start right up and keep running when the throttle is set in neutral. The engine stalls in neutral at idle only. When your outboard starts right up keeps running with throttle applied in neutral but shuts down the moment you come back to idle speed in neutral the issue is likely to be a sticky or broken AIS automatic idle speed valve.

The outboard keeps idling when I push the chokeenrichment button before its about to die by pressing the key in. Yes its an electric start. When I press the key in the engine starts revving higher in rpm for a bit and returns to the normal rpm and then the engine dies.

I have cleaned the carburetor WME 2XK very thoroughly. Installed new fuel filter and ring. Put in new plugs.
Primed engine and whamo fired right up. Took a few seconds to rev up with throttle advanced in neutral. Ran about 2minutes and quit.
Was hard to restart. Increased low speed idle about two screw drivers and it then continued to idle. Motor idles but wont accelerate.
By PSG-1 21 Mar 2012 2037. If it runs when you hit the primer or the primer bulb then it is most likely a fuel delivery issue such as a clogged jet or a bad fuel pump. But the first thing to check obviously is if.
Engine idle speed combustion pressure rises too early causing power loss and rough running 1981 mercruiser 260 overheating lack of power repairing outboard lower units if outboard is running rich how to set timing on 1970 mercury outboard 50 hp johnson outboard motor 1977 starts wont run engine boat yamaha 40 1982 the idle is rough or unstable adjusting idle. 2007 Yamaha outboard 4 stroke will not idle and engine dies. I have a 25 hp mercury outboard motor that wont idle runs ok a high speeds - Answered by a verified Marine Mechanic. 1985 DT55 terrible idle will NOT go slow without dying. Ive been fighting with the idle with this motor for a long time now.
Heres a short list of the current issues. -idle is very rough. It shakes pretty bad.
-takes forever to get it started at times. - when i shift it into forward to cruise slowly it just sputters and. It does run much better but still wont idle.
The motor starts right up either with the choke or at a fast idle if warm. It runs OK at a fast idle and accelerates fine let it slow down to idle and it will get rough and eventually stall. I have a new diaphram for the fuel pump but it does not seem like a fuel delivery issue.
To begin the idle adjustment after you have turned your engine on the next thing you have to turn the idle screw one which is usually surrounded by a spring and found at the lower part of the Johnson Outboard Motor. Loosen it by turning the screw Counter ClockWise which is one turn to 1 and one-fourth. The fuel passage coming from it up the side of the bowl and going to the low speed circuit can get plugged to causing idling symptoms similar to yours.
Another problem area can be the condition of the low speed needle packing washers 16. If they are damaged the motor wont run right as air will leak past them. BF100 wont idle.
Picked up an older model BF100 about three weeks ago. Looks like it has had very little use and has run well. Started it tonight starts easy.
It runs with throttle in the start position choked and open but will not idle in the shift position. Ive played with the idle speed adjustment and it will only.
