Turn the key onpush in fuel primer switch. Fuel should travel easily from the tank all the way to the pump.
Acceleration Issue On High RPM.
Outboard motor primer bulb problems. The primer bulb cant suck it up without removing it. If the primer bulb airlocks and wont seem to get any fuel. Disconnect the fuel line from the engine side of the bulb.
With the arrow pointing to the side where you pulled the hose off. Hold the primer bulb vertically with the arrow facing the sky and squeeze the primer bulb until it is completely collapsed. Then stick your finger on the hose.
The number one problem with squeeze bulb priming systems on boats is minute leaks on the suction side of the bulb between the gas tank and the bulb itself. Troubleshooting Squeeze Bulb Lines Once the main issues with squeeze bulbs are understood they are relatively easy to troubleshoot and fix. Primer Bulb Problems I just had the same problem.
Traced it to the male quick disconnect on the fuel tank. This was a new tempo 28 gal tank. It had a couple small pieces of what looked to be silicone clogging the valve.
The flat primer bulb was the tip off. A venting problem or a fuel restriction. A primer bulb that sucks flat is a sign of fuel not getting thru the lines to the bulb.
Nothing to do with the engine. The fact that the bulb is sucking flat is indeed a sign that the electronic fuel pump is doing its job perfectly. It just cant suck fuel thru because there is none getting to the bulb.
Primer bulb issue. I went out fishing last night and when I was running the boat slow I had no issue but as I went up in rpm about within a minute or two the primer bulb would be sucked in bulb would be in the position as if someone squeezed it and the boat would stall. Any suggestions on what the issues are.
Motor Abruptly Cuts Off. A possible cause of this may be a collapsed primer bulb which happens when a vacuum is formed in the fuel tank thus cutting off the supply of fuel to the engine. To fix this just loosen the vent screw to create some aeration and then pump the primer bulb till it hardens.
When the primer bulb isnt working it may be a problem with the bulb itself with the fuel lines that feed fuel to the bulb or both. The same goes for fuel lines. When theyve hardened and cracked they let in air which makes it impossible to draw the fuel.
Trim engine to full downpump fuel primer bulb to fill the carbs. Make sure engine has sufficient cooling water. Raise warm up lever.
Turn the key onpush in fuel primer switch. Start engine while holding fuel primer switch in. Once engine starts release key and primer.
Sometimes you have to bump the primer switch occasionally as engine is warming up. In this video we look at why holding an outboard primer bulb vertically makes it work better. This is because gravity acts on the one-way ball valves helping.
Outboard Fuel Line Problems. Finally if you are struggling to get your outboard running correctly you might consider looking at the fuel lines. Blocked fuel lines keep gas from getting to the engine.
Most of the blockages start out partially. In these cases simply pumping the primer bulb or playing with the hose will start the motor. You can check this by pumping the primer bulb until it feels hard.
Fuel should travel easily from the tank all the way to the pump. Your outboard fuel filter located just before the fuel pump should be full. With the engine off and the cowl cover removed remove the spark plug wire boot and remove the plug.
There could also be a loose or broken hose or clamp that will need to be repaired. The motor should have regular maintenance that checks the impeller and the exhaust system. While modern outboard motors are quite reliable and maintaining your motor will help ensure that there are still issues that can pop up.
Its important to pay special attention to the motors fuel system since thats often a common culprit behind many issues. If required you might have to replace the primer bulb or your outboard motors fuel line. May have to be replaced.
Acceleration Issue On High RPM. Another commonly mentioned troubleshooting issue with Suzuki 115 outboard motor is the visible struggle during acceleration. Sometimes the engine may sputter at the high RPM.
This easy fix might make your day. Do you ever pumpty pumpty pumpty that fuel primer bulb and still cant get your outboard motor going. In under two minutes you could learn how to solve the problem for good.
This helpful YouTube video by Succstrat explains what might be affecting your ability to get going. A blocked outboard fuel line prevents fuel from getting to the motor. It generally starts with a partial blockage where playing around with the fuel hose and pumping the primer bulb will get the motor to start or keep it running.
If its sucking a little air its loosing its prime and the fuel pump cant pull gas from the tank especially like gary said if you can squeez the primer bulb because its empty. Check to see if all the gasline fittings are fitting squarly on thier seat with another fitting. Primed engine and received handful of gas.
Determined bulb had failed - with a crack in the rubber. Placed order for replacement primer bulbpump. Remove tiny hose clamp and rubber gas line from pump 2.
Loosenremove retainer nut on pump assembly. Remove oldinstall new primer pump assembly. All of Mercurys factory set up fuel line packages have the primer bulb about 18 from the engine end.
Mercury uses 516 line all size engines. OMC always used 38 hose. I re-did both of mine with the Tempo 38 hose and primer bulbs and after 5 years still have no problems with the equipment.
My prior hoses were not alcohol resistant. Incorrect use of the priming pump may also cause a boat motor to flood. The priming bulb is a small rubber button that pumps fuel into the motor when pressed.
If this bulb is pressed too many times it will flood the cylinders to the point where the spark plugs can longer ignite. Thus rendering your engine dead in the water. Pre G2 Ive seen several of the ultra long offshore multi outboard powered boats with the 30ft fuel tank to motor fuel line runs have the primer bulbs in line prefilter due to priming problems caused by fuel pull resistance.
Hated the concept due to the enclosed fail often leak mode old school primer bulbs. The primer bulb creates the initial flow of fuel between the inboard built-in fuel tank and the carburetor in low-pressure carbureted outboard motors or between the fuel tank and the vapor separation tank – and the electric fuel pump – on electronically fuel-injected motors. The primer bulb has one-way check valves in each end and if it.
