This allows the engine to better develop crankcase compression especially in worn motors.
You can pressure test to see what all is leaking or just.

Thank you in advance. Hi three things can cause excessive oil to run down inside the exhaust housing and out the prop if that is what you are seeing. First the oilfuel mixture is too rich-501 is what you want to use you do not mention what HP it is and if oil injected then different reasons can also led to excessive oil.

I doubt its a problem. If I accidentally got too much oil in the gas it would smoke but also dump some oil thru the exhaust.

Check around the oil filter. Wouldnt be the first time a filter has split filter seal failed or filter case developed a tiny pinhole. If you can see where oil has leaked out but cant find the source you could put the muffs on again gtebthe water connected start the motor with cowl off and look for oil spurting out.

Perhaps I should have waited until after I retire to get a boat. Been a bad week for me and engines. The oil that comes out as you drain the lower unit can tell you a lot about whats going on inside the gearcase.

Hello all- so my 2002 Suzuki 140hp 626 hrs has a slight oil leak i noticed when i tilt motor up prop out of water- I have located the source in the photos here- I changed the infamous plug that potentially causes corrosion mine was not corroded upon purchase- whew-. A corroded oil pan or a bad head gasket would both do it. But the other one that gets looked over the most and the one that it usually is is a failed oil cooler or the Oring on the oil cooler has failed.
