I have a 19 ft Trophy that has a 115 HP Mercury Optimax outboard that has been working like a charm. I have a 2000 mercury 90 hp that started making a constant alarm sound when the key is switched on and started.
Problems with the alarm system on Mercury outboard motors creating false alarms are reported quite often.
Mercury boat motor alarm going off. My Mercury 150 hp alarm is sounding off after 30 to 45 seconds of run time. Started this year after sitting up all winter. No problems at the end of last summer.
The main oil reservoir is 34 full and the small resevoir on the front top of motor is full. Cranks and runs great. I own a 1996 60HP Mercury outboard.
There is very little water coming out of the pee hole. If I run the motor a very low speed for 3-4 minutes an alarm goes off. Im guessing its the alarm telling me the motor is starting to overheat.
I would appreciate your suggestions on I what I can do to increase the water flow. Re-connect the wire and separate the others. The alarm not sounding when the oil tank is disconnected is your smoking gun.
The tank float is the likely culprit. Those motors are prone to collect debris behind the thermostat and create an overheat condition while water output looks normal. The temperature sensor will usually be located on the cylinder block typically near an upper cylinder.
It typically will have a brown wire. Disconnect the sensor from the brown wire–usually there is a connector or plug. IF this stops the alarm then the alarm is coming from this sensor.
I have a 2000 mercury 90 hp that started making a constant alarm sound when the key is switched on and started. This is not a beeping sound its just constant. Any answers for this would be great.
I have already checked the oil level and the water pump seems to be working fine. And motor still runs normal. 2000 262 cruiser with a 57 mercruiser engineafter operating boat for about 20 minutes the warning alarm keeps beeping loudly the engine temp read 160F the oil pressure is normal at 40 psi the voltage is normal at 13 volts or soI cant figure out why this beeping occurs the depth gauge does not work and I keep it in the off position but the beeping is non stop really cannot use the boat until.
Either water in the fuel. The water in the fuel sensor is bad. Or the engine mounted oil tank is bad.
On the water side of things unplug the water sensor and see if the alarm stops or not. If it does stop then you have either water in the fuel or that water detection sensor is bad. I have a 2001 225 HP mercury ominmax outboard motor 2 stroke the alarm started going off beep beep I beleive this is oil related have replace the sensor and oil tank on the side of the motor.
Charge the battery and run the engine on premix fuel and oil to safely check out the problem. The oil alarm module checks oil level in the motor mounted tank loosen the oil tank cap slightly run the motor until the tank fills from the main tank so full that it. If your engine is carbureted - The alarm will go off for low lube in the gear lube bottleIF Mercruiser overheating no oil pressure or if the engine is thinking any of those is happening due to faulty alarm switches.
The gear lube bottle has 2 wires that come out from under that. 2007 Rinker 370 Mercruiser 496 with Bravo 3 and Digital Throttle Shift DTS Ran fine below 3200 RPM. Above 3200 RPM stbd engine would reduce power with constant-tone alarm.
Go to idle. Alarm would stop within about 5 seconds. Wait 20-30 seconds at idle.
Could go back to 3200 RPM but not above. NO alarm codes on engine monitors. Intermittant problems are very hard to troubleshoot.
A steady alarm is telling you the motor is overheating. If you are sure it is not overheating then possibilities are an impeller not pumping quite the volume of water needed a partial internal blockage a heat sensor in the head going bad or if you have one an alarm module going bad. I have a 1998 mercury optimax 225 the alarm is going off and the motor goes into safe mode did it twice last year if i raced the motor up it went away and didnt come back on for the rest of the year it did the same thing again but this time it wont go off even sounds when the key is in the on position checked the oil tank both are full checked the fuel for water and there is no water and changed the gas.
Ive got a 150 HP Mercury Optimax and on a trip a few months back the alarm was going off constant high pitched beep. We nixed the plans to head to Catalina that day while I investigated what was up with the motor. My initial guess is that its either low oil or a bubble in the line.
I check and theres plenty of oil in the tank. Problems with the alarm system on Mercury outboard motors creating false alarms are reported quite often. You probably should investigate the alarm system of the motor.
We do not consider troubleshooting the alarm system of an outboard motor to be strictly a small boat electrical problem and generally the topic is discussed under the REPAIRSMODS discussion. If no then it is as i suspected and the gear got worn. At this stage you ll ave two options either strip the engine to replace the threaded screw or disconnect the oil injection system and start mixing the oil manually.
To stop the alarm disconnect the wires going from the. The warning horn is activated any time engine speed exceeds the maximum allowable RPM. The system will limit the engine speed to within the allowable range.
Engine overspeed indicates a condition that should be corrected. Overspeed could be caused by incorrect propeller pitch engine height trim angle etc. Sensor out of Range.
115 HP Merc Optimax sensor alarm goes off at 4000 RPMS. I have a 19 ft Trophy that has a 115 HP Mercury Optimax outboard that has been working like a charm. It is set up with a SmartCraft gauge and the problem is that it sends an alarm anytime I go over 4000 RPMs.
Dealer has said Mercury is aware of the issue they have had many boats reporting the problem and it has something to do with a false cooling water inlet water pressure signal which then alarms and limits the engine rpm. Unbelievably Mercury doesnt have a solution yet. I have found if i ease the boat very slowly up to cruising speedrpm I can avoid the alarm but if the engine has to work hard or when you change rpm quickly it triggers the alarm.
13 May 14 2014. Smart craft alarm goes off after 3-4 mins at idle changed water presure sensor poppet oil presure sensor switch alarm still comes on after 3mins on idle. Stop the engine then goes in to guardian mode.
Stars ok then 3mins later alarm again any ideas. I have a 2002 Searay 270 Sundeck with a 320 hp Mercruiser 62L. MPIBravo 3 Duoprop which has just developed an engine alarm problem.
After running 10 to 15 minutes at a cruising speed of about 3400 RPM the engine alarm sounds. Oil pressure oil level engine temperature. And outdrive lubrication levels all appear to be normal.
First thing to do is buy a manual. Here is what the manual says for a Mercury 50HP. Warning Horn Stays On When Ignition Key is Turned to ON Position Engine Cold.
Faulty Engine overheat sensor. If warning horn sounds a continuous beep the engine. Overheat sensor may be faulty.
We were idling up the creek the other day and went to punch it and the alarm went off and stayed on constantly. I turned the engine off and checked the oil and it was fine. Water is coming out fine also.
The alarm is on even when the engine is not started. Before I start taking things apart done.
