It should be used full strength undiluted. A good way to remove internal corrosion form an outboard block is to use the Salt Away.

How to clean outboard motor water jackets. Cleaning Outboard Cooling Water Passages In this video I experiment with cleaning the cooling passages in three outboard heads using different chemicals. I try using Salt Away Hydrchloric acid muriatic acid and white vinegar. Remove engine cowl and disconnect the pee-hose from the plastic outlet.
You can then remove the plastic outlet and clean it which will get rid of the pieces of grit that are probably trapped within. The outlet has a tiny exit hole and it doesnt take much to block it. Soak the heads and the inside of the block with lime away let it set for 1 hour or so and rinse off with water and scrape with a screw driver or a pocket knife and a little wire brush lime away will soften the corrosion build up and will come off easiernot a miracle stuff but help a lot and its gelly so it stay longer on vertical surfaces.
What works best as a water jacket flush and descaler I have used diluted muriatic acid with great success. Drop the lower unit. Open up thermostat housing.
Put a bucket underneath the lower to catch the acid. Have a fresh water hose standing by. Use ethylene glycol in the jackets of stored engines as it is a very good rust inhibitor.
It should be used full strength undiluted. In talking with some collectors of marine engines I found that this use of glycol was well known to them. The new owner of an antique marine engine should clean out the water jackets without delay.
Use a drip tray to catch the crapdo it outside or have GOOD ventilationHave a water hose handyuse baking soda to neutalize the acidic water in the blockflush welldispose of the waste properlyrepeat until the water jackets are cleanIt really does work well and its a pretty cheap procedureI paid 900 for a gallon of acid at the hardware store. The water jacket passages on the head were not too bad and around the cylinders in the block mostly clear. The cause of the overheating was most likely a somewhat blocked t-stat and totally blocker poppet valve.
I subsequently soaked all of the bolts and T-stat in straight vinegar for 2 days and they came completely clean. Maybe flush motor in a barrel of water with a chemical cleaner to remove the calciummineral depositson a 1999 motor head bolts may be corroded in place and break off upon removalCould turn into a difficult situation that might be avoided with a chemical cleaning. You can remove and visually inspect most parts of your clogged outboard but not all.
You can flush the cooling system with fresh water using a garden hose just as you do when you winterize the outboard. But some parts require a different approach. One example is the jets and passages in a carburetor which are small some verging on invisible.
Please like and comment. Per my mechanics suggestion 1 cup vinegar to 1 gallon water flush should help with the calcium insidedont know how youll be able to do that with a raw water wash straight from the hose though. He also suggest water softener for hose line cause.
Fill the tank with 13 ration of acid to wateru dont need alot. Take the pump and attach a hose on the outflow side use an old piece of garden hose and attach it to the water tube. Connect the pump to a battery.
The water will fall into the tank and just be reused. Flush for about 30 minues you do not need the engine turned on. Throw the t-stats in the tank and let them soak or just replace them.
Remove boat from water. Place the motor in an appropriate container so that the engine intake is well below the lip of the container. Mix one part of concentrated Star brite Descaling Engine Flush with one part fresh water.
Fill container until engine intake is completely submerged in the. A good way to remove internal corrosion form an outboard block is to use the Salt Away. It mixes in with the flush water to remove the salt that has been retained in the motor from running.
And for the external corrosion try Lime Away. If you are looking for ways to clean the calcium deposits inside the motor cooling system you may get some ideals in this thread. Born Again Boating Clothing.
