Posted May 27 2014 Mines always between 42 - 45 and Ive never run out of water yet. The 60 inches may not be used all of the time but if you get out in any wave the motor wont be popping in and out of the water. It wont hurt to have the extra shaft length.
In rough water the prop would come out of the water on nearly every wave peak. That was a real pain. Now when I buy a trolling motor I buy the longest shaft I can get in a 24-volt motor.
And yes it was well worth the day it took me to rig up my Magnum for 24-volts including re-inforcing the bow deck for the extra stress. I have a 219FS however I had a 60inshaft mounted on a 186 sportsman so I guess the 219 should handle the 72in. Thanks for all your help.
