Could it be a bad seal. If so its unburned exhaust oilfuel mix nad nothing major.
Is this normal or am going to need to repair this.
Boat motor leaking oil from prop. When the gearbox oil on an outboard either leaks out entirely or gets emulsified it is generally because on or more of the oil seals have failed. Mate it sounds like a bit of shit oil buid up but an easy way to check that its not coming from the gear box is to remove your top oil screw vent hole bottom 1 near base of gearbox is your fill hole top 1 is the full hole for gearbox vent take this 1 out oil should b at that level and make sure it is not a milky coulour and is full to there and you will know then its just shit 2stroke oil build up. Try the synthecic 2stroke oil its clean mean and green and good for the motor.
Gasoil leaking through center of the prop at times. Model of this motor —–If the bulb does not go hard you could have a ruptured diaphragm—–Easy fix if you are interested in checking fixing that simple pump—–But some leakage out the exhaust can be normal after long periods of idling—–How did the motor run for you last season. I just bought a 2003 16 Lund rebel SS Fishing boat.
It has a 2 stroke oil injected 50hp Johnson motor. I made sure the oil was topped up in the leg filled from bottom. I hooked up the water and gas and I ran it in my driveway for 10-15 min to get the fog out because it hasnt been in the water since it was winterized.
After I ran it and it sat for a while I noticed oil leaking from the prop. Black Oil Coming Out By PropHELP. Did you replace the seals on the lower unit screws when you changed the oil.
Try that and see if its still getting water in it. Otherwise rub some of the leaking oil between your fingers and give it a sniff and see if it smells like oilfuel. If so its unburned exhaust oilfuel mix nad nothing major.
If they leak oil will be noticed dripping from the back of the drive just in front of the propeller. Removal of the seals requires removal of the bearing carrier which usually requires the destruction of the locking ring a strong pair of pulling legs and judicious use of some heat. I got the leaking fuel from the power head fixed by resealing the crankcase halves.
The oil dripping from the lower unit where the exhaust comes out is a new issue. Its definitely oil from the fueloil mix not oil from the lower unit gear case. The oil is black and has an exhaust smell to it.
Lower unit oil smells rotten and is generally thick has a distinct Smellmotor oil would be blacker and would be normal as a little could easily blow by and end up in exhaustyour exhaust exits prop a little oil leaking out inside prop not a big deal. Oil leaks look big after spread out on floorcheck levels and change lower unit oil then keep an eye on it. If you have run your motor at low rpm without load in cold weather it is completely normal that unburned black oil drips out of exhaust or drain holes in lower unit afterwards almost every two-stroke Ive had did that.
I doubt its a problem. If I accidentally got too much oil in the gas it would smoke but also dump some oil thru the exhaust. If the oil is black only coming out when you run it no excessive smoke coming from the motor then it may be normal should not be a cup of oil thou You may have had a carb.
Needle stick open especially if it only happened once it was running rich for a minute or so I would take the boat out run it to varify all is running ok first before you start troubleshooting. Is it leaking directly from the seals that are visible around the propshaft or is is just coming out of the exhaust area. If it is right at the propshaft seal the bearing carrier has to be pulled and the seals driven out and replaced.
You need some special tools to do it. If it is coming out the exhaust cavity it could be several things. It only happens after running the boat and leaks for about a day then is done.
Its a older 74 evinrude 85 HP I mix the gas and oil very cautiously and use Pennzoil. The spark is strong and the motor runs great I have done compression tests on the 4 cyl they seem fine but have not done a leak down test. Its not gear oil and I have had the the.
While it was down oil started leaking out of the middle of the propIt appears to have stopped after a few minutes and leaked about 6-8 oz. Now looking at it the is a little that leaked out from behind the prop and ran down the to the bottom of the rudder. A two stroke engine does not have an oil sump or reservoir in the engine.
There may be an under-cowling oil tank which is not part of the engine. This could be leaking oil. The lower unit gear case has an oil reservoir which could leak.
If you see this oil leak from the propeller shaft exhaust it could just be unburned exhaust residue which is slowly draining out. Posted 10-05-2005 0831 PM ET US. This mixture of oil and carbon builds up in the exhaust chamber of the engine and eventually will wash off and drain out.
The result is a very black oily sludge coming from the propeller. This one is easy if engine oil is leaking the propeller needs to come off and be inspected by a prop shop. This condition means oil is leaking around the internal piston and is filling the hub cavity.
Keep in mind engine oil is pressure fed into the propeller to control the blades. If the hub fills with pressurized oil it can hydraulically lock the piston. I am new to fishing boats and I just noticed a tanbrown liquid leaking out of the propeller area of my lower unit.
Is this normal or am going to need to repair this. Could it be a bad seal. I always have it winterized by the marina.
Thank you for any suggestions I am very green when it comes to boat motors. There is a check valve that would prevent oil from back flowing down the fuel line. When this happens what happens is oil will leak into the fuel line.
The fuel line will fill with oil. When you crank the engine over the fuel pump will suck all of this oil that is now in the fuel line and dump it into the carbs. Oil plays an important role in the overall function of a boat engine.
Among other things its responsible for lubricating the moving parts cleaning and preventing corrosion improving the seal and cooling the engine by wicking away heat. Without oil the engine and its components may overheat and degrade. Remove the engine hood and see if any hoses are broken or disconnected.
Look for cracks in the engine or water leaking from anywhere. If you cant find an obvious problem the water pump impeller is most likely faulty. This can not be repaired on the water.
Take a tow to where a mechanic can work on your motor. 15 Jul 2009. My 5 year old Tohatsu 6hp 4 stroke outboard has developed an oil leak seeping through the propeller which indicates that the seal by the prop shaft is leaking hence need replacement.
The engine has done in total no more than 80 hours since new. However the manual does not mention. Milky lower unit oil means you have water in the oil which means youve lost a seal somewhere.
The first place to look is the output seals which are found behind the propeller. Theyre commonly damaged when fishing line gets wrapped around the prop shaft and the seal can be inspected by removing the prop.
