It may or may not die and acts as if it has run out of gas. If it does die it will start right back up very quick and easy. When its in full throttle it cuts out like its not getting enough fuel.
When its doing that the fuel bulb isnt tight and when you pump it up it stops cutting out. If the motor is off and you pump the fuel bulb it over flows. Sometimes boat issues seem like theyll be really complicated but end up being easy to fix.

Some old mercs have a piece of metal below the engine housing in the exhaust channel that can break lose and wedge in the exhaust channel. If this is the problem the only fix is to take the head off and remove the metal. You can run em without the metal.
The sympton for this situation is the motor will idle ok but wont run at full throtle. If your engines slows down after a short while using full throttle there is the possibility that one of your carburators is not getting enough fuel. Try the next time when this problem occurs to use the hand pump conecting your tank with the engine.
